Renewable energy, a future with so much potential

The need to reduce CO2 emissions is one of the greatest environmental challenges facing today’s populations as global temperatures continue to rise, and dependence on fossil fuels still remains. An effective and sustainable way of reducing CO2 is through the continued growth of renewable energy and low carbon energy systems that can be used to power buildings and transport networks. Renewable energy is generated by harnessing natural sources such as wind, solar, biomass, biofuels, heat pumps, hydro and other forms.

TWC Consulting are ‘independent’ energy specialists who can provide accurate advice and guidance on all types of renewable energy systems and low carbon technologies. The Consultancy is experienced in selecting, specifying and calculating the various forms of renewable system(s) appropriate to a building’s energy demands. This has included advice to commercial organisations, schools, hospitals, social housing organisations and bespoke projects.

TWC Consulting identifies the most effective system(s) based on site constraints, the needs of the Client and the thermal performance of the building envelope.

Financial incentives           BREEAM reports

There are obvious benefits from specifying renewable energy systems which have been well-documented. However, to increase uptake of the systems the Government has recently issued several financial incentives. These include the Feed-in-Tariff [FiTs], the Renewable Heat Incentive [RHI], the Green Deal and the Renewable Obligation Certificates [ROCs].

The feed-in tariff offers a financial incentive for renewables that produce direct electricity such as; Photovoltaic (PV Panels), domestic wind turbines and hydro power.

The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) provides a financial incentive for renewables that produce heat energy such as Solar Hot Water, Ground Source Heat Pumps, Biomass Boilers and Air Source Heat Pumps.

TWC Consulting provide a range renewable energy reports [including BREEAM compliant reports] that can be tailored to suit the energy needs of a development.

The reports outline the available options considered relevant and the most appropriate system(s) from which the Client can select.

Several calculations are completed which confirm the amount of energy generated by the system per annum, the expected levels of CO2 emission reduction, life cycle costs, payback periods, local Planning consent, the feasibility of exporting heat and/or electricity to the grid, available grants and reasoning for excluding other technologies.
