BREEAM “Adaptation to Climate Change” Waste 5

TWC Consulting continues to push the BREEAM Waste 5 credit on all its newly appointed Assessments.

The aim of this credit is to recognise and encourage measures to mitigate the impact of extreme weather conditions over the lifespan of a building.

The criteria for this issue is as follows;

1.  Conduct a climate change adaptation strategy appraisal in relation to the structural and fabric resilience of a building by the end of Concept Design (RIBA Stage 2):

2. Carry out a systematic structural and fabric resilience risk assessment to identify and evaluate the impact of extreme weather conditions arising from climate change focusing on the following areas;

  • Hazard identification
  • Hazard assessment
  • Risk estimation
  • Risk evaluation
  • Risk management
